South Carolina is the first state in United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 to develop a Watershed Resources Registry (WRR). South Carolina’s WRR has been guided by the leadership of Sustain South Carolina (www.sustainsouthcarolina.org) -- a statewide 501(c)(3) – with a mission to link commerce and conservation across South Carolina, by aligning the diversity of the state around the future of commerce and conservation”. Sustain South Carolina convened a diverse group of stakeholders to develop South Carolina’s WRR. This consensus driven decision support tool aims to help minimize conflict and assist in finding conservation value for an applicant’s mitigation need. Stakeholders include: Clemson University, Fuji Film, Furman University, Lowcountry Land Trust, Maryland Environmental Service, Open Space Institute, South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative, South Carolina Coastal Conservation League, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, South Carolina Department of Transportation, South Carolina Farm Bureau, South Carolina Forestry Commission, South Carolina Forestry Association, USDA Forest Service, South Carolina Mitigation Association, South Carolina Ports Authority, Dominion Energy, Duke Energy, Norfolk Southern,The Nature Conservancy, United States Army Corps of Engineers, and United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 4.
